Building bridges—translating five Futuress texts into Japanese with Tokyo-based publisher Troublemakers

We are excited to share the fruits of a collaboration with Tokyo-based independent publisher Troublemakers! Over the past few months, the two platforms have been carefully selecting five out of almost 140 Futuress texts to be translated into Japanese. Art director Manami Inoue and editor Yuto Miyamoto were determined to offer the Japanese-speaking audience a glimpse into stories born from the urgencies within our community, and they selected texts for this first volume (with the hope that more will follow) that could potentially resonate politically with Japanese readers at this particular moment in late 2024. This selection has now been published as デザインはみんなのもの (Design is for EVERYBODY) and includes My Grandma is Not a Cyborg by design researcher, architect, and data activist Sinem Görücü, A Canon Misbound: Feminist Lessons in Print by designer, researcher, and educator Karoline Buer, Mutual Dreaming by designer Nina Jun Yuchi, On Caste: The Roots of Discrimination in Indian Design by illustrator and researcher The Big Fat Bao, and Pastel-Coated Violence by visual artist and researcher Noura Tafeche.
